Crochet is a traditional fiber art that can be used to make many things including: decorative items, blankets, hats, accessories, clothing, and amiguri - cute little animal figures. Crochet is a technique that cannot be done by any machine therefore youth will be empowered to create in this truly human-based method. Crocheting engages a 4-Hers Head and Hands. They will learn to plan their project, gather materials, learn the needed skills, execute their plan, troubleshoot problems, and display their success.Meeting Time: Second Wednesday of the Month 5:30-7:00 pmMeeting Place: Sew What - 25 Seminary St. Suite 3Meeting Dates: Second Wednesday of each Month: 10/14, 12/9, 1/13, 2/10, 3/10, 4/14 and 5/12 from 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm. CCE-Cayuga is seeking County residents with diverse interests and backgrounds to serve as At-Large members of its Board of Directors. Board members guide and shape the direction of the organization’s many programs, oversee its finances and operations, select and evaluate the performance of its director, and other duties that help to ensure CCE-Cayuga effectively meets the current needs of Cayuga County residents.New board members would serve a 3-year term from January 2027 through December 2029, with an option to continue for a second term. The full Board of Directors meets in person at the CCE offices in Auburn on the third Thursday of each month from 5:30–7:00pm. Board members should plan to attend all meetings to ensure that we meet quorum, though occasional scheduling conflicts can be accommodated. There is no financial commitment required to apply or serve. New members of the board will be confirmed at the 2026 CCE Cayuga Annual Meeting on Thursday, October 22, 2026 or they may be appointed by the board between annual meetings. About CCE Cayuga Founded in 1914, CCE-Cayuga provides free or low-cost classes, workshops, services and information based on current research from Cornell and other Land Grant universities across the nation. Think that you can grow the biggest pumpkin? 4-H of Cayuga County would like to see you try! Youth under 18 years of age (4-H members and non-members) are invited to register now to join this contest to grow the biggest pumpkin. Weigh-in will be on Saturday, October 17, 2026 from 10:00-11:00 am (weigh in is promptly at 10:30 am) at the Ward O'Hara Agricultural Museum in Auburn.  A winner will be named for heaviest pumpkin. Prizes to be determined.Please complete one registration for each participant. Registration fee includes 2 Big Max seedlings. Payment can be made by PayPal or in the office. Seeds may be picked up in the office, 248 Grant Avenue in Auburn, after registration fees are paid.Contest Rules: Participants must be under the age of 18 as of January 1, 2026.One pumpkin per participant may be entered in the contest.Pumpkins entered in the contest must be Big Max variety. Older youth are invited to attend either the business meeting or activity. The Auburn 4-H Spark Club starts up again on Tuesday, October 20th from 5:30 - 7:00pm at the CCE Office at 248 Grant Avenue in Auburn. The Club will meet on the 3rd Tuesday of each month: Oct. 20, Nov. 17, Dec. 15, Jan. 19, Feb. 16, Mar. 16, Apr. 20, May 18Youth aged 5-18 are invited to these new, staff-led 4-H meetings. This is a great opportunity for youth to get to know 4-H and investigate their "sparks" or new areas of interest. Youth may attend one, some, or all meetings and may start attending at any time during the year.Projects started in these meetings can be entered in the 2027 4-H youth fair. Spark Clubs are open to all interested youth; enrollment in 4-H is highly encouraged but is only required for youth who want to enter their project in the 4-H Youth Fair or who want to use their 4-H experience on an application.Youth under the age of 14 should be accompanied by an adult.Registration is encouraged but not required. The link to register is below. While registration is not required, signing up is encouraged and we greatly appreciate it as it enables us to plan for materials (and snacks!). Also, any changes to scheduled meetings and programs due to weather will be emailed out to those who have registered.

The Moravia 4-H Spark Club starts up again on Thursday, October 1st from 4:00 - 5:15pm at the Masonic Lodge at 64 Main Street in Moravia. The Club will meet on the 1st Thursday of each month: Oct. 1, Nov. 5, Dec. 3, Jan. 7, Feb. 4, Mar. 1, Apr. 1, and May 6.Youth aged 5-18 are invited to these new, staff-led 4-H meetings. Every month a new subject and activity will be covered, from cooking to crafting to science projects!Projects started in these meetings can be entered in the 2027 4-H youth fair. Crochet is a traditional fiber art that can be used to make many things including: decorative items, blankets, hats, accessories, clothing, and amiguri - cute little animal figures. Crochet is a technique that cannot be done by any machine therefore youth will be empowered to create in this truly human-based method. Crocheting engages a 4-Hers Head and Hands. They will learn to plan their project, gather materials, learn the needed skills, execute their plan, troubleshoot problems, and display their success.Meeting Time: Second Wednesday of the Month 5:30-7:00 pmMeeting Place: Sew What - 25 Seminary St. Suite 3Meeting Dates: Second Wednesday of each Month: 10/14, 12/9, 1/13, 2/10, 3/10, 4/14 and 5/12 from 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm. Youth 8-18 are invited to learn how to crochet and begin working on a crochet project of their choice. Classes will be taught by the experienced volunteers at Sew What and is open to youth of all experience levels, including total beginners. Youth who attend will also be prepared to take more of the community classes and open workshops offered by Sew What.Upon starting, the $5 material fee will cover needed items like hooks and yarn. This fee can be accepted at the first class in either cash and can be waived if it would otherwise prevent a youth from participating. Youth will be able to choose materials from the wide array of materials stocked in the Sew What store. Youth under 14 should be accompanied by an adult.Completed crochet projects can be entered into the county fair this summer by enrolled 4-Hers.
