Agriculture Educator - Auburn, NY

This position will serve as the Agriculture Development Specialist for Cornell Cooperative Extension Association Cayuga County and will assist the Executive Director with developing, planning, implementing and evaluating Agriculture education for a menu of Agriculture programs to include, but not be limited to: dairy production, management, marketing, business development, and tourism. The primary audience for programming will include agricultural producers and related service providers; new entrepreneurs in production, processing, and agriculture related business including agricultural tourism; and community members whose support of agriculture is important. This position will teach in both group and individual settings utilizing a variety of delivery methods, to include, but not limited to: workshops, seminars, demonstrations, interest groups, newsletters, farm visits, and mass media. Projects will include a focus on enhancing the viability of local agriculture through product diversification, direct marketing, promotion of local product labels and value-added opportunities by linking with available expertise including other local and regional Association staff and Cornell University faculty. This position will work with and coordinate a variety of agriculture and community stakeholders. The Agriculture Development Specialist will also be responsible for assisting in the identification and assessment of educational program needs, developing program goals and objectives, and the evaluation of all program offerings. This position will work as an Association team member in addressing local, regional, and statewide programming priorities as appropriate.

In addition, this position will implement educational programming for adults and youth in the areas of consumer and commercial horticulture. This position will be responsible for the delivery of established Horticulture programming to community groups, and will deliver other established Horticulture programming and activities, both on-site and off-site, in the community, in accordance with the Agriculture Program Area’s plan of work. This position will coordinate the Master Gardener Program, including the training and supervision of Master Gardener Program volunteers.

POSITION DETAILS:
This position is a full-time, exempt position. The annual salary for this position is $53,000 to $57,000 commensurate with experience. This position, based on eligibility, offers a comprehensive benefit package, to include: health and dental insurance NYS retirement, vacation, sick and personal leave.

• Master’s Degree or Equivalent Education (Bachelor’s Degree and four (4) years transferable relevant evidence-based research experience).
• Experience relevant to the role of the position.
• Valid New York State Driver’s License and the ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position
• Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.

This position will serve as the frontline staff building strong customer relations in assisting producers in the agriculture industry. This position will work as an Association team member in addressing local, regional, and statewide programming priorities as appropriate.

In addition, this position will implement educational programming for adults and youth in the areas of consumer and commercial horticulture. This position will be responsible for the delivery of established Horticulture programming to community groups, and will deliver other established Horticulture programming and activities, both on-site and off-site, in the community, in accordance with the Agriculture Program Area’s plan of work. This position will coordinate the Master Gardener Program, including the training and supervision of Master Gardener Program volunteers.

POSITION DETAILS:
This position is a full-time, non-exempt position, 37.5 hours per week. The hourly rate for this position is $23.00. This position, based on eligibility, offers a comprehensive benefit package, to include: health and dental insurance NYS retirement, vacation, sick and personal leave.
