Pullorum Testing

  • Tuesday, June 2, 2026, 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM

Pullorum testing in poultry is a simple and fast blood test that certifies that an individual bird does not carry dangerous bacteria. Results are acheived within minutes and birds are given a unique leg band to confirm their pullorum free status. When attending this event please bring poultry in cages or crates that they can comfortably travel in and be removed and replaced easily. It is easier on birds and youth if the birds are used to be handled.

Poultry under 1 year old from a NPIP certified hatchery or residing in a certified Pullorum free flock, pigeons, and waterfowl do not have to be tested. All other poultry MUST be tested in order to be shown at fair, including home-hatched poultry. This service is offered free of charge by New York State in order to promote healthy flocks.

All poultry ordered through the 4-H office from Meyer hatchery has a NPIP certificate on file and does not need to be tested in 2026.

Any turkeys NOT registered may not be able to be tested, please be sure to register them by the deadline. Please email Sara immediately if you plan on bringing any additional turkeys. If you are not in 4-H you may attend this event but will be placed last in testing order.
